Little Cabin in the Woods
We're finally moved! sort of.
We've been looking forward to our big move and lifestyle change from city to country livin' for quite a couple years. We have been working to fix up the little cabin we are now living in for over 2 months (thought it would take a couple weeks, but it had to be pretty much gutted and done over) and now althought it's not done, it is livable.
It's so much fun to finally have colors on the walls! Most of the interior walls are a soft green. The trim in the master bedroom is a darker green and the wood floor has been painted the same color.
The kitchen has red trim and red accents. The foor is vinyl in a cobble stone pattern and the cabinets are dark green. I love this room!
The mud room is pale yellow with white trim. The cabinets are the same dark green as the kitchen cabinets and trim in the master bedroom. The living room has the red trim like the kitchen and natural wood floors.
The boys' bedroom (yes, you read right, all three boys are in ONE SMALL bedroom!) is a bright blue (the boys picked it, of course) with white clouds. There is dark green trim around the windows. The plan is to paint murals of dinosaurs on the walls and space on the ceiling. John's going to build a tripple stack built in bunk bed on one wall and there are three side to side closet units on another wall for their clothes and belongings. It's cozy but we are hoping to add more sleeping space in our attic soon.
There is still so much work to be done! There is still a lot of debris on the property that has to be cleared, salvaged, or burned. John told the boys they can have the money from any of the scrap metal they collect up. An old barn has to be torn down and burned. All the old trees on the property need a pretty drastic pruning since they have gone without for about 40 years. And mature trees drop a LOT of leaves in the fall, but our city boys think that raking leaves is fun, so they are getting raked up in good measure. There is also an apple orchard which I am really hoping to save. I have always dreamed of having an orchard!
And there are plans to be made for farm animals. We are planning on getting some chickens in the Spring and contemplating some goats or sheep for landscape control. We would much prefer to have some furry friends to keep the folliage down rather than having to purchase an expensive polluting tractor.
Which brings me to my next little bundle of news......a furry little four legged friend named Wendall! What a sweet little guy he is! Wendall was a rescue from the Humane Society who joined our family on moving day. Yes, that was my idea, John being the reasonable one of the bunch wanted to put off pet adoption day until after we were moved and well settled but my heart just couldn't let this little gem of a pup slip through our fingers! The Humane Society said he was 4 months old, but he turned out to be 5 months old...the Humany Society said he was a lab mix, but we are thinking he is more Hound...and the Humane Society said he was healthy and ready to be released, but he was really really sick! Poor little guy. We are giving him lots of extra TLC and hope he is on the mend now. He is a perfect personality match for our family. He is pretty low key and calm, so won't add too much hyper energy to our already very lively lot. And such a face! Who can resist this face?? ....Roscoe the cat isn't a big Wendall fan, though. But I think they are coming to a mutual respect of eachother.
We are planning a wonderful country Christmas. We have so much to be thankful for!
Now, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!
